The top (i'd say more like NUMBER 1) quality of a compassionate & conscious leader ( AKA a yoga teacher) is emotional intelligence otherwise known as SELF-AWARENESS.

Having a mindfulness practice helps us work with our emotions, and most importantly identify and put words to our feelings. The ability we have to self-regulate ( train our minds) is the most important to connect to neutral energy. YOU DON'T THINK LIFE YOU FEEL LIFE ( if you've been to my yoga classes you've heard me say this once or twice!! 😉).

If you are a yoga teacher, a mindfulness practice is BASELINE of experiential learning. I've spoken to some of you that you can start this at 5 minutes each day. BAM. Right there, you have a mindfulness practice ( on our course-site i've shared Sat Nam sadhana and SO HUM sadhana)"

At its base, Yoga is an experiential science therefore the focus in yoga mentorship is this too! Those this make sense? Yoga teachers that feels un-authentic do not, I repeat, do not have a mindfulness practice.

Fired up today! Would love to know how you feel about my rant.

Moving Beyond Fear: Estelle's Mantra

Hi gang!

So you’ve watched the videos, done the Creative Tasks, and your are still wanting more practical way to work in welcoming fear in your life…? I’ve got your back!

I want to share that I am still with a lots of fear!! I’m actually still quite terribly nervous before my weekly yoga classes (yes, the ones I have taught for years) , never mind the big events I sometimes lead ( 100+ yogis!). I’ve come to realized that I am nervous, not because I am unprepared or fearful of what what might happen…. quite simply, I’m nervous because I care! Over the years, I’ve learned to see my nervousness as a good thing!

Nonetheless, here are the two Mantra I use the most when it comes to jitters:

This mantra was instrumental in my evolution as a yoga teacher. Heck! Even in thinking of myself as a yoga teacher without feeling like an impostor. In the first couple year of mentorship I would have the teacher fill a full page with the sentence ‘I am a yoga teacher’. For a lot of them, it was really cathartic!

Most yoga class you go too in your popular yoga studio, omit the FEEL, WATCH, ALLOW in this week BREATHE, RELAX mantra. They stop at ‘relax’. It’s a tragedy! They’re is tremendous power in identifying our emotions, watch that emotion ( literally as if you were hovering over it them) and ALLOW your emotions. Good emotions are good! Bad emotions are good, too ! Feel the fear and do it anyways. Remember what Cheryl Strayed has to say about fear, that’s its your indicator that are doing what you are meant to do!

Love you!

Lead with love or fear ?

As yoga teachers, we are conscious leaders. Leaders are self-aware (i.e: know their strengths and weaknesses), hold themselves accountable, inspire with a clear vision (intention, sankalpa), listen for possibilities and are constantly learning and become luminaries.

It’s important to differentiate between love and fear leadership style.

Lead with Fear:

  • Negative self-talk: I am not enough

  • Stuck in the past

  • Dream small

  • Rigid thinking

  • Problem focusing

  • Believes in struggling/mending

  • Victim mentality

Lead with Love:

  • Driven by love and empowerment of self and others.

  • Positive self talk

  • Able to see possibilities.

  • Dreams big

  • Flexible thinking

  • Solution focused

  • Believe doing what you love without struggle (when struggle shows up, follow it, and say: was is it here to teach me?)

New Beginning Blessing

Blessing for a New Beginning

In the out-of-the-way places of the heart,

Where your thoughts never think to wander,

This beginning has been quietly forming,

Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

For a long time it has watched your desire,

Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,

Noticing how you willed yourself on,

Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.

It watched you play with the seduction of safety

And the gray promises that sameness whispered,

Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,

Wondered would you always live like this.

Then the delight, when you courage kindled,

And out you stepped onto new ground,

Your eyes young again with energy and dream,

A path of plentitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear

You can trust the promise of this opening;

Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning

That is at one with your life's desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure;

Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in the risk;

Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,

For your soul senses the world that awaits you.
