July 1 - Aug 31, 2019 Like many of you, I spent most of my life, particularly in my twenties - living primarily from the masculine. I really tried to be a"good girl" by trying to make it in a man’s world. This included: pushing through anything no matter how I was feeling. I was “busy, busy, busy” and in return the world valued me as a hard worker. I would soldier on through any life event and pride myself on being able to never stop. I thought this is what it was to be strong and healthy. I was neither. Now, in hindsight, this time in my life was completely disconnected from my feminine powers since it relied only and completely on will and determination. It’s not until much later and in the midst of deep grief over loosing my second son Tommy that I began working intentionally on feeling alive but from the INSIDE . On this inner journey, I discovered how I hold within me both the feminine and the masculine. Now, instead of resisting change, I flow through change. Instead of over-riding my feelings, I make them my allies. The formula for balancing my act wasn’t always straight forward or absent of guilt, but I let it unfold. First, I began a strict self-care ritual. This included meditation, yoga, dancing and painting every day. It also includes nature and disconnecting from my phone at nights and on weekends. Slowly but surely, I began to heal (and still work on healing every day!). With self- work came self-love. The more you love yourself, the more magic you can experience. 💛👣This is love: To fly toward a secret sky, to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment. First to let go of life. Finally, to take a step without feet.” • RUMI Rumi is always right. (First to let go of life.) In the kitchen on the night after Tommy’s memorial. Looking right, his high chair and looking left a clean empty milk bottle. I kneeled down to get his formula. I grab it. I stop. I have done this ten of thousands of times before. Chin to my chest, bouncing my knees, closing my eyes- oh yeah, I don’t need to do that anymore. (Hundred more veils falling.) In our backyard, I look at Isaiah biking. Look how tall!and big ! and smart! and daredevil you are!!!! Didn’t I just cradle you both in my arms? (Hundred more veils falling.) Motherhood opened me up to my complexity and identity. My priorities instantly shifted. A crash course in alertness, tenderness, multitasking and forgetting me. But in the forgetting is this remembering and then somehow I give myself room for growth and the dignity to discover what I think and what I want. I give more. I care more.  I cannot know or be or do everything: I can only listen, notice and feel my way into my child. I’ve improvised with them and created a nest from day 1 and it’s been; Quiet and loud. Difficult and delightful. (this is love) Rumi is always right. (to fly towards a secret sky) And so i fly! And take one more step without feet. Nothing selfish about wanting the live well and be well. Upon the incredible opportunity to detach completely from your everyday life, I let it reclaim fragment parts of me that have been misplaced. A reset button for life. My ONE life. A time to be who I really am. Reckless courage to belong. To heal myself is what will ultimately heal the world. It starts with Me. Am IT! Don’t you see? Selfish trips are not selfish at all. Nothing selfish about wanting to heal. To be well and live well is what this life wants for us. I believe in this, fiercely. Love you in belonging, always. Like- all you need is what you have, right now. This doesn’t mean getting through a difficulty will be easy.
